Winter Woes

Uh oh. According to some old superstitions we are in for a long, dark, cold winter. The amount of black versus red on a woolly bear caterpillars has long been said to predict the severity of a winter: the more black the caterpillar, the more harsh the winter will be.

Though this is not backed up by science, it seems like this winter is likely to follow a La Niña pattern for the third time in a row, a very unusual event known as a ‘triple dip.’ This probably means a wetter, colder, longer winter and probably a cabbage year to follow. Maybe the woolly bears are right after all.
